New York Mets righty John Maine, who had the lowest ERA (1.35) in the majors in April, was awarded the NL Pitcher of the Month honor.
The 25-year-old Maine posted a 4-0 record, allowing just five earned runs in 33.1 innings, never surrendering more than two runs in any start. He held opponents to a .159 batting average and recorded 30 strikeouts for the Mets, who have won each of his starts.
American League
Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Roy Halladay was named the AL Pitcher of the Month for April.
In six starts, the 30-year-old Halladay posted a 4-0 record and a 2.28 ERA in 47.1 innings. He tossed two complete games, including a 10-inning performance April 13th in a 2-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers.
The four-time All-Star and 2003 Cy Young Award Winner has not allowed more than three runs in any start this season.
Both pitchers will receive a super special trophy to commemorate their Pitcher of the Month performances.
