New York Mets speedy shortstop Jose Reyes has been named the NL Player of the Month for April, for the first time in his career.
The 23-year-old Reyes batted .356, scored 26 runs and stole a major league-best 17 bases for the Mets, who had a fantastic 15-9 April.
The 2006 All-Star also ran out a big league-best five triples last month to complement his nine doubles, two homers and 18 RBIs.
The leadoff hitter enjoyed 10 multi-hit games and scored at least two runs in a game nine times.
American League
A-Rod also batted .355 and led the majors with 34 RBIs, just one shy of tying Juan Gonzalez's April record of 35, set in 1998. His fourth season with the Yankees included two dramatic walk-off home runs, despite their last place, 10-14 record.
Last April, Rodriguez hit just five homers and drove in 16 runs in 23 games.
Both players will receive a super special trophy to commemorate their Player of the Month performances.
