There's something absolutely irresistible about the unheard-of pitching injury phenomenon that has hit the New York Yankees this season. Is it a curse? Aliens? There's really no other explanation.
Darrell Rasner left the Subway Series against the New York Mets with a broken index finger yesterday that could have him sidelined up to three months. Hit on the right hand by an Endy Chavez one-hopper, Rasner lasted only nine pitches before leaving to be examined by a hand specialist, who recommended surgery.
Rasner got his chance in the rotation only due to the mass amount of injuries to the other starters. He went 1-3 with a 4.01 ERA in six starts, including Saturday's loss.
Starters Chien-Ming Wang and Mike Mussina have returned from hamstring injuries, but the struggling Yankees are still waiting for rookie Phil Hughes' hamstring to get healthy and Roger Clemens to get back into pitching shape. Jeff Karstens is nursing a broken leg and Carl Pavano is also sidelined. Again. With an elbow injury.
The Rocket pitched four innings for the Class-A Tampa Yankees on Friday night, his first minor league start of this comeback. Shockingly, he is expected to join New York's rotation just in time for the early June series at Boston.

The curse of Johnny Damon.
Wait that's backwards! Which makes complete sense.
I'd be terrified if I was Clippard. Or Clemens, for that matter.
Clemens pulls his groin in his second start back. I'm calling it now.
Has no one pointed out Clippard's resemblance to Clay Aiken? Does he come to the mound to "Invisible?"
oh my goodness Clare. Clay Aikan?! I see the resemblance. It's kind of a sad one, too.
