Monday's Babelicious Scoreboard

The Chicago Cubs may have beaten the San Diego Padres after going 0-7 against them last season, but they lost Alfonso Soriano in the fifth inning.

The centerfielder injured a hamstring while diving for a shallow, 1-out Clay Hensley fly ball. Soriano raced in, dove and rolled over as he trapped the ball, slipping as he got up to attempt the throw.

A trainer ran out onto the field, but Soriano walked off gingerly on his own. The initial diagnosis was a strained left hamstring, but the club hopes to know more after an MRI exam on Tuesday. Even if the test reveals no tears, he may miss at least a few days.

Cliff Floyd, who replaced Soriano, went 2-for-3 with 4 RBIs, Derek Lee went 2-for-2 with an RBI and Matt Murton had 2 RBIs on a 2-for-4 night. Winning pitcher Jason Marquis threw six good innings, allowing 1 earned run on 3 hits, striking out five but walking four. He went 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored at the plate.
