Red Sox Ink Jonathon Papelbon

The Boston Red Sox signed closer Jonathan Papelbon to a one-year contract on Sunday, with undisclosed financial terms.

The 26-year-old righty dominated the hill last season, going 4-2 with 35 saves and a 0.92 ERA. He converted 19 saves in the first two months of the season, getting his 35th save on August 31st - the day before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury.

As the runner-up for the American League Rookie of the Year award, Papelbon is ready to make the transition to the starting rotation this spring, joining Josh Beckett, Curt Schilling, Tim Wakefield and Daisuke Matsuzaka as one of the starting five.
