The 12-time All-Star walked slowly off the field with Athletics' trainer Larry Davis, before the club announced his injury as a bruised left triceps. You could still see impressions from the seams on Piazza's elbow after the game.
Piazza probably won't see much time behind the plate for the A's this season, as Jason Kendall and Adam Melhuse will split the backstop duties, allowing the 38-year-old Piazza to concentrate on hitting. He raised his spring training average to .444 Tuesday, third-best among the A's regulars.
