New York Mets ace Pedro Martinez actually threw a baseball on Wednesday.
Beginning the long road to recovery, he lightly tossed the ball for about 10 minutes from a distance of about 45 feet for the first time since undergoing rotator cuff surgery last October.
Pedro has been doing most of his rehab in the Dominican Republic for the past five months, making occasional appearances at the Mets' minor league complex in Port St. Lucie.
The 35-year-old hurler went 9-8 last season with a 4.48 ERA and is not expected to rejoin the Mets' rotation until after the All-Star break. He is a career 206-92 with a 2.81 ERA in 442 big league games, 2 whiffs away from 3000 strikeouts.
